Ataturk Dam, dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (1881-1938), the founder of the Turkish Republic and its first President, is one of the world largest earth-and-rock fill dams and the largest structure ever built in Turkey for irrigation and hydropower generation. An image of Ataturk Dam appears on the Turkish one-million lira banknote.
